Management & Leadership Tips:
How exactly do you create the future for your company?
As July gives way to August and companies begin to think about
developing strategic plans for the next year, the future becomes a hot
topic. So how do you operationalize your company’s future?
In
a nutshell, the process is about identifying where the company is now,
setting goals for where everyone wants the company to go, getting buy-in
from all relevant stakeholders and decision makers, and choosing the
three or four major focuses - transformational initiatives (TIs) - that
will close the gap between where the company is and where you want to
be.
This process also involves identifying the basic improvements to
operational efficiencies that will add incremental value to an
organization. You’ve got to get those right. Incremental growth is
necessary but not sufficient to create the future you envision. It’s the
foundation, and without it, a company is looking at an unfulfilled
vision.
The magic, however, comes when a company takes a long, hard look at
itself, determines the right direction in which to head, and chooses
three or four initiatives on which to lavish time and attention.
