National Retail Federation gets the word out
on Mitel’s touch-screen phones

Representing 1.6+ million U.S. establishments, the NRF understands that keeping staff well informed is vital to serving its members effectively. Looking to improve in-house communications, control system management, and broadcast timely updates to staff, NRF chose Chesapeake to transform how the organization shares information.

After Chesapeake performed an infrastructure assessment and fine tuned some firmware, the NRF’s network was ready for IP voice. Chesapeake installed Mitel’s 3300 IP phone system at DC headquarters. 150 Mitel 5360 phones were connected to the network using built-in Gigabit Ethernet. Equipped with a color display, the 5360 phone enables everyone to interact with web apps through a 7-inch touch-screen.

Chesapeake also implemented Mitel’s Live Content Suite. With the push of a touch-screen button, users can read NRF executive messages and follow Twitter feeds that include industry updates. News can be developed with blogging tools and pushed out to specific users or workgroups. Push-to-dial phone numbers embedded into touch-screen text enable quick response when there is a call to action.

Using the Live Desktop Portal app, the 5360 IP Phone integrates with desktops and laptops for flexible feature programming. A web-based interface allows drag-and-drop phone customization by users. The NRF also wanted internal management control of the new system – the 3300 supports in-house moves and changes.

Mitel launches new Tele-collaboration
and Video Meeting room systems

Mitel has introduced TeleCollaboration Solution Release 3.2, which is available in 3 large-as-life configurations to support executive offices (HDSolo), small meeting rooms (HDDuo) and large meeting rooms (HDTrio).

Up to 6 meeting rooms in different locations can join a video meeting. Participation is not restricted to dedicated meeting rooms – employees, customers and partners can join video meetings right from their desktop.

Participant’s desktops are fully rendered in high-def to support sharing of files along with white board interactions. Connecting is as simple as pushing a single button on your Mitel phone.

Video Tele-collaboration is a good fit for typical enterprise needs as well as tele-health, distance learning, hotel and resort, and retail markets where large digital signage can be combined with interactive events.

Video conferencing is a technology that quickly pays for itself by eliminating travel time and savings from airfare, car rentals, mileage, tolls, parking, hotel rooms, and per diem.

Find out how Mitel’s TeleCollaboration Solution can get your business off the road and back to work. Call us today (800) 787-4848 or email jnolte@chesapeaketelephone.com.

Toshiba IPedge – Linux-driven IP Voice platform means affordable power, reliability & security

Toshiba’s new IPedge provides all the features, functionality, quality and reliability you expect from a traditional PBX – but in a pure IP format.

IPedge supports multiple UC applications on a single Linux server, including call processing, voicemail and unified messaging, native SIP support, mobility, survivability, centralized administration of all sites, and feature-rich telephone endpoints.

Centralized administration and maintenance is provided via Enterprise Manager, a browser-based tool that reaches all IPedge systems over the LAN/WAN from any location.

Add-on applications, such as meet-me conferencing with Web collaboration, uMobility Fixed Mobile Convergence and Call Center solutions, are available.

IPedge advantages include …

– Survivability within or across the network to support business continuity

– A single IP address for simplified, cost-effective deployment

– SIP trunks work natively with the IPedge without requiring additional gateway equipment

– Investment protection; future endpoint devices and applications are built on standards that help ensure compatibility

Management & Leadership Tips:
How exactly do you create the future for your company?

As July gives way to August and companies begin to think about developing strategic plans for the next year, the future becomes a hot topic. So how do you operationalize your company’s future?

In a nutshell, the process is about identifying where the company is now, setting goals for where everyone wants the company to go, getting buy-in from all relevant stakeholders and decision makers, and choosing the three or four major focuses - transformational initiatives (TIs) - that will close the gap between where the company is and where you want to be.

This process also involves identifying the basic improvements to operational efficiencies that will add incremental value to an organization. You’ve got to get those right. Incremental growth is necessary but not sufficient to create the future you envision. It’s the foundation, and without it, a company is looking at an unfulfilled vision.

The magic, however, comes when a company takes a long, hard look at itself, determines the right direction in which to head, and chooses three or four initiatives on which to lavish time and attention.

The author, Marty O'Neill, leads Corsum Consulting, a Maryland-based management consulting firm focused on building strategic value for companies in the middle market.

Marty can be reached at (410) 757-6877 and marty.oneill@corsum.com.
